Alex Marshall MBE continues to be a dominant force in the world of bowls and at 55 years of age he still has a hunger to add more titles to his glittering array of achievements.
He won his first World Indoor Singles title in 1999 and he has competed in the Championships every year since, collecting the singles title for a record six times, missing out on a record extending seventh title last year when he lost out to fellow Scot Stewart Anderson in the final.
He got this year's Ambassador Cruise Line sponsored campaign at Potters Resorts, Hopton on Sea, Great Yarmouth off to a winning start, battling back from dropping the opening set, played well to win the second set then get home on the tie break, winning the closest of measures on the second end to post a 4-6, 9-3, 2-0 victory against the tough Tyneside competitor David Bolt - a habitual qualifier - who didn't do much wrong in the match but once again was disappointed to leave empty handed.
He will be back in the thick of the action next week - Thursday 23rd January at 7.30pm, when he will go head to head with the 'new kid on the block' Jason Banks from the North of Scotland, who lost in this final two years ago.
