BRETT SURVIVES AFTER A TIE-BREAK AGAINST FORMER TO 16 RANKED PLAYER

Former Top 16 Ranked player, Jonathan Ross - who bowed out of the World Top 16 Ranking in 2018, made a welcome return to the World Bowls Tour fold courtesy of winning the Belfast qualifying.

Drawn against Number 4 seed, and 2106 champion Nick Brett in the 1st Round, Jonathan, who now represents the West of Scotland club in Glasgow took a good few ends to settle down before Nick scored doubles over two of the last three ends to take the set 10-5.

The second set was closely contested all the way. Tied at 2-2, 4-4 and 5-5 on the penultimate end, with Jonathan rolling in a double to win 7-5 and push the match a tie break – which went Nick’s way 2-0 and see him through to a 2nd round match against Scotland’s David Gourlay MBE on Tuesday 17th January.

Match Result -

Nick Brett (Eng/4) bt Jonathan Ross (Ireland/Q) 10-5, 5-7, 2-0
