DOUBLE TITLE HOLDER DAWES KEEPS HIMSELF IN THE FRAME

Updated: 7 hours ago

Mark Dawes bucked the trend from the last three games played in the previous 1st Round matches in the Ambassador Cruise Line World Indoor Open Singles Championship - where Qualifiers ended the hopes of the three seeded players - who were all previous winners of this title.

Dawes kept his hopes of a third world indoor singles title alive after a determined 9-4, 9-7 victory over regular Scottish qualifier Ronnie Duncan from the Midlothian club near Edinburgh.

He found himself 4-1 down after four ends of the opening set, but turned the match around with a finishing burst of 3, 1, 2 and 2 to win 9-4.

He carried that momentum into the second set, once again going on a scoring spree of 3, 2 and 1 to lead 6-0 over the first third of the match.

Duncan dug deep and replied with a treble and double, then after dropping a single he once again forged a further count of two shots to level the set at 7-7.

However the finishing line was so near yet so far over the run to the finishing and the Scot dropped back to back singles and missed out 9-7.

Dawes continues his title chase against England international team mate Martin Heitzman on Thursday 23rd March at 10am.
