CeriAnn Glen and Stewart Anderson both kept their hopes alive of regaining the @Imagine Cruising World Mixed Pairs Matchplay title, getting over the tie break hurdle against Aussie Lisa Featherby and Norfolk’s Mervyn King 9-6, 6-11, 2-0.
CeriAnn, who now flies the Welsh Standard, is one of only three pairs to have won this title back-to-back – winning in 2008 and 2009 when representing Australia along with David Gourlay MBE.
After a length sabbatical she returned to the sport last year, and this time round was teamed up with 2021 holder Stewart Anderson (who won with Julie Forrest as his partner).
In their semi-final against newcomer Lisa Featherby from Perth and Mervyn King, Stewart pulled off a magical conversion shot on the fifth end, turning a one shot down into a full house count to move 7-3 ahead and going on to win the set 9-6.
In the second set, he replicated that exact shot – once again on the fifth end.
Trailing 6-0 he repeated that delicate shot to flick the oppositions holding bowl out of the head to rack up a full count of four to put them back into contention and while both teams scored on two each of the last four ends, Lisa and Mervyn scored a double and treble to win 11-6 and set up a tie break which went the way of CeriAnn and Stewart 2-0.
That win sets them up for a title decider against defending champions Alison Merrien MBE and Paul Foster MBE on BBC Television on Tuesday 17th January at 1pm.
