FOSTER AND BANKS SECURE LAST TWO SPOTS IN THE QUARTERS

After the concluding two matches on day fourteen of the Ambassador Cruise Line World Open Singles Championship, five-time champion and world-ranked number 2 Paul Foster MBE and world number 6 Jason Banks complete the quarter-final line up after they both notched up wins.

In the penultimate game, Foster managed a win over Aussie qualifier Darren Rowland, a science consultant from the Maylands District of Perth.

Rowland scored singles on five of the nine end set, but multiple counts on his four scoring ends left Foster as the winner 11-5 and in the second set, four shots on the third end followed by a double was the turning point as he went on to seal his straight sets victory 9-5.

Banks is the holder of the last three World Bowls Tour event titles- taking out the Scottish International Open title at West Lothian late last year and so far at these championships the 28 year old Design Engineer with Ashtead Technology, has taken charge of the Open Pairs trophies with Elgin's Michael Stepney and added the Mixed Pairs title alongside Beth Riva.

Chasing the last quarter final spot, Banks came up against none other than the renowned six time record holder of this title - Alex Marshall MBE.

The match had its highs and lows, with both players producing their top form at times and struggling to find the lines on the rink, but at the end of the day it was Banks who got over the finishing line 9-6, 6-6. He progresses to 'quarter final Friday' where it will be an intruiging day with six out of the eight players in the frame having won this title before.

Title holder Stewart Anderson opens the action at 10am against fellow Scot David Gourlay MBE. Play continues at 1pm with an all English clash between former holders Paxton and Les Gillett, qualifier Paul Hartley lines up at 3pm against Mark Dawes and Banks and Foster will wrap up the day in the 7.30pm time slot.
