QUALIFIER JON WILSON JOINS WALKER IN THE 2nd ROUND OF THE WORLD INDOOR BOWLS SINGLES CHAMPIONSHIPS

28 year old Jon Wilson, who won a berth in this year’s @Imaging Cruising World Indoor Bowls Singles Championships after taking out a spot at the Atherley area qualifier, produced a mighty victory, only dropping three ends in each set to see of world ranked number 7 Jamie Chestney 9-6, 7-5.

A plumbing and heating engineer from Chipstead in London’s West Croydon area, plays from the Wey Valley Indoor facility and hit a rich vein of form to chalk up his success.

He trailed 2-1 after two ends then reeled off seven shots in a row. Despite dropping a treble and single, he secured the first set with a single on the last end.

The second set was a lot tougher.

Once again Jamie made the early running, opening up a 3-0 advantage over the first two ends, but once again Jon came out fighting and countered with a 1, 1 and 2.

Jamie got his nose in front at 5-4 with a double on the sixth end, but it was the Wey Valley man who scored hard earned singles on each of the last three ends to hold off the Jamie Chestney challenge to win 7-5.

He returns to the action on Thursday 19th January against world ranked number 10 Rob Paxton.
